Foundation Stage
All children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace. We strive to plan a curriculum that is in line with nationally (UK) approved learning outcomes and the seven areas of learning within ‘The Foundation Stage’ which prepares children to progress with confidence to the National Curriculum at the age of 5 years.
Seven Areas of Learning:
Communication and Language
In both small and large groups, children are encouraged to extend their vocabulary and fluency by talking, listening and by hearing and responding to stories, songs and rhymes.
Literacy
Children are introduced to reading and writing. Using their phonic knowledge to read, write words and sentences and eventually enabling them to read independently.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Within a nurturing environment, children are individually supported in developing confidence, independence and self-respect.
Mathematical Development
By means of adult-supported practical experience, children become familiar with sorting, matching, ordering, sequencing and counting activities that form the basis for early mathematics.
Understanding of the World
A safe and stimulating environment allows children to explore and experiment with a range of natural and manufactured materials. Children are also encouraged to enjoy many festivals and events from a range of different cultures. Children are introduced to technology using iPads in the classroom or PCs in the computer room.
Physical Development
A range of equipment and opportunities, both indoors and outdoors, allows children to develop confidence and enjoyment in the use and development of their own bodily skills.
Expressive Art and Design
Children safely explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design and texture. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, dance, role-play and stories.
